Diabetes and Hearing Loss
Posted by Jennifer Spiller on March 06, 2020
According to a Government of Canada publication, from 2013 to 2014 approximately 3 million Canadians (or roughly 8.1% of the population) were identified as having diabetes. There were also 200,000 new diagnoses during that time. Prevalence increases with age, and is more common in males than females. Although research has not yet found a causative link, people with diabetes are twice as likely to have hearing loss as people who do not have diabetes. A quick complimentary half-hour hearing screening may be all that someone needs to rule out hearing loss.
